I need to locate and summarize a news-type story that demonstrates social psychology principles in everyday life. Where can I find articles about this? What would it be? Doesnt social psychology apply to anything?

Any suggestions

Social psychology applies to everything!

First, have a look at this article from Wikipedia, which gives a short summary of what social psychology actually IS:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_psychology

Essentially, social psychology focuses on how an individual’s or group’s thoughts, feelings and/or actions are affected or influenced by other people.

Psychologists look primarily at the individual, while sociologists focus more on groups of people.

If you are following the U.S. Presidential Race, your topic could be how individuals and/or groups are influenced by certain celebrities’ endorsements of particular candidates (Oprah Winfrey endorsing Barack Obama, for example … ) and how that has caused people to vote for him … or vote against him.

Politics, religion, education … all those areas and many more … anything that involves what people DO and how that can be influenced by others … could be good places to find examples of social psychology principles in everyday life.
